FORKLIFT Operator Safety Training by National Lift Truck

Programs are designed to instruct operators in the safe and proper use of their equipment. Our programs include classroom training, a PowerPoint® presentation followed by a multiple choice test and hands-on operation of the equipment. Certificates of Completion and wallet cards are provided to successful trainees.

MOBILE ELEVATED WORK PLATFORM (MEWP) Operator Safety Training by our IPAF Evaluation Center

The IPAF training programme for platform operators was developed by leading industry professionals. It is certified by TÜV as conforming to the international standard ISO 18878 Mobile elevating work platforms – Operator (driver) training. More than 150,000 operators are trained each year through a worldwide network of training centres. Successful trainees receive a PAL Card (Powered Access Licence), a safety guide, a log book and a certificate.

Program is designed for safety directors, training managers, risk management personnel or a company-designated person responsible for operator safety training. The course includes classroom instruction covering a wide range of required topics and safety-related information, as well as hands-on operation of the equipment. Participants receive a Trainer’s manual, handouts, resource information for applicable industry standards and OSHA regulations. Trainers receive a CD-ROM with the complete PowerPoint®training program and printable files. Certificates of completion and wallet cards are provided for successful trainees.

Re-certification training is available for operators who have been previously trained and need to renew their wallet cards. Classroom portion reviews basic safety fundamentals and practical operation completes the renewal process. New wallet cards are provided upon successful completion.

  1. Can an individual register for training without being employed?

    No, an individual must be sent directly from the company with whom they are currently employed.

  2. What kind of equipment do you offer training on?

    Powered Industrial Forklifts: Sit-Down, Stand-Up, Pallet Jacks, Walkie Stackers, Rough Terrain Straight Mast Forklift (Forklift Classification 1 – 7)

    Rough Terrain Forklift: Telehandlers (Forklift Classification 7)

    Mobile Elevated Work Platforms: Scissor Lifts (3A), Boom Lifts (3B), Personnel Lifts (1A)

  3. Do you offer training for non-English speaking customers?

    Our FORKLIFT and Rough Terrain Forklift training program is only offered in English at this time.
    Our MEWP training program is offered in multiple languages. (Please call for details)

  4. How can I register for a class?

    Online Registering
    We offer training at our Franklin Park facility as well as on-site training at your facility.

  5. Where is the training location?

    3333 Mt. Prospect Rd. Franklin Park, IL 60131
    Please go to the main entrance, south of the parking lot, and check in with the receptionist on the day of training.

  6. How long is the class?

    Depending on the class size, each class will take 4-5 hours to complete.

  7. What is the maximum number of attendees per class?

    There is a 12 person per class maximum for FORKLIFT training at National Lift Truck.
    FORKLIFT training on-site at your facility have unlimited number of attendees.

    MOBILE ELEVATED WORK PLATFORM (MEWP) training classes are limited to 6 attendees – both at National Lift Truck and on-site at your facility.

  8. What do I need to wear or bring to class?

    You will be operating equipment, please use the following as a guideline for safe operation:
    Wear comfortable clothing that is free of anything that may catch on the equipment
    Wear closed-toe shoes
    MEWP operation requirement: Please bring a safety harness and tether to class.

  9. How long does it take to receive the certificate packet?

    Please allow 2-4 days after taking the class to receive your FORKLIFT and Rough Terrain Forklift certificate packet. The MEWP Training – PAL Card – will take up approximately two (2) weeks be received.

  10. Will my certification card be valid at another company?

    No, certificates and wallet cards are non-transferable. Training documents stay with the company who requested your training.

  11. What is the Forklift Operator Re-Certification course?

    The Forklift Operator Re-Certification course is for experienced operators who are interested in renewing their certification. National Lift Truck requires operators to renew their wallet cards every three years. Supervisors may send their employees in for a Re-certification  course sooner if any of the following occur:
    Employers observe workers who are operating a lift improperly
    An accident occurs during equipment use
    Workplace hazards involving equipment are discovered, or
    A different type of lift is being used
    Upon successful completion of both the classroom and hand-on operation of equipment, students will receive a renewed certificate and wallet card.

  12. How long is the Forklift “train the trainer” certification good for?

    Trainer status never expires. However, operator status must be renewed once every three (3) years.

  13. How long is the MEWP certification good for?

    The Mobile Elevated Work Platform certification is good for 5 years.

  14. I misplaced my Trainer’s Manual. Can I purchase replacement training materials?
